the store was an absolute gem and i wanted everything!

tara - you can tell all the merch was hand selected by you, as it all had your signature bold, colorful, fabulous style. and…. im so happy the cottage is now an official “letter holder” for @thesundayletterproject and that my letter was the first in the mailbox! I wrote to a (as of now) unknown penpal in Buenos Aires (partially because it’s on my “to be visited” list and one day hopefully i can pick up my return letter in person).

A free letter-writing hang for people who don’t “write.” (Truly. You can’t do this wrong.)

My friend Theresa recently sent me a New York Times article titled The Case for Handwritten Letters, and apparently writing by hand lights up parts of your brain tied to creativity, memory, and your senses — which feels like a good enough reason to try, right?

So — we’re leaning in.

We’ll draw a recipient from a grab bag (someone who believed in you, a version of you from another time, someone you never properly thanked), and you’ll write whatever comes out. No pressure to be poetic. No sharing required. You can be heartfelt, rambling, funny, or completely unsure.

Think: part experiment, part nostalgia, part “wait…why does this feel kind of special?”

Come as you are — even if you haven’t written anything since middle school 💫

wow! that peacock was peacocking! I love that I had just read about this beautiful bird in edith hamilton’s book Mythology a day before seeing it perform. The story goes that Hera hired Argus (the “all-seeing” 100 eyed giant) to watch over Io, a mistress of Zeus. After Hermes killed Argus, Hera transferred his eyes onto the feathers of her favorite bird.

One of the highlights of this whirlwind trip was getting to know Savvas, his son @ioannis25 and the rest of his family. We spent hours sitting at his shop listening to stories about his bouzouki playing days (i wish i had the video he showed us to share), how he learned his trade, and the history of his father who served as a guardsman for the king. He gifted us beautiful luggage tags as a memento of our time together. i was crying by the time we left and in a strange turning of fate, i also ended up communicating via text with a stranger who i only later found out was his daughter! meetings like this is why you travel!

while the #acropolis is cool - the island has me charmed. the custom made sandals by @savvassandals , the cobblestone streets, the windmills standing like sentinels over the sea. #rhodes has a hold on me and the #hamman ritual bath made me think “this is what it must feel like to be in a womb or to live inside a cloud” - so intentionally and tenderly cared for. anyone who knows me knows i’m an early bed, early to rise kind of girl, but here i’m managing to linger long after dark at tables tucked in alleys enjoying all the spoils of life. opa!

just sitting in terminal c gate 5 thinking of all the things i love - travel, books, and connection.

last month in SF (the most liberal city in the US) a saw a phone booth that said call a republican. the line was connected to a phone booth in abilene (one of the most conservative cities in the country). I called. Arlene answered.

We talked mostly about books - I had just walked out of @dogearedvalencia and she owns a bookstore.

Yesterday, I received a lovely surprise gift from her in the mail! now me and my new tote are headed to greece!

Found this book in my @Kimpton by IHG San Francisco suite and loved it so much I had to have my own copy. My house is overrun with books - you’ll find them not just in my 4 bookshelves but piled on stairs, nightstands, beds, tables and ottomans in my home.

Here’s a few paragraphs from the intro of this text written by Nina Freudenenberger: “In each house we visited, the libraries were the heart of the home, meaningful to the collector’s lives. In this book, we tried to capture what they brought to the home, the life and spirit books added. Some subjects have working libraries they constantly reference. Others fill their shelves with the potential pleasure of the unread. When we visited the homes, many people could find favorite books almost by osmosis, using systems only known to themselves. In choosing our subjects, we were not merely interested in the beautiful and perfectly curated rooms, the most expensive collections, or those shelves filled only with rare first editions. Although there’s plenty of beauty on display, this book is not about unattainable libraries any more than it is about perfectly decorated homes. Rather, it’s about the power of books to tell stories in both the literal and figurative sense. As we found repeatedly, surrounding yourself with books you love tells the story of your life, your interests, your passions, your values. Your past and your future. Books allow us to escape, and our personal libraries allow us to invent the story of ourselves - and the legacy that we will leave behind.”

Today was a fun one 🎉! It combined many of my love

Today was a fun one 🎉! It combined many of my loves – letters 📝, books 📚, and thoughts of travel 🧳 ✈️. When I read the prompt provided by @thesundayletterproject I immediately remembered a workshop I took with @brendanlorber through @uncommongoods (you can read more about it if you scroll back some blogs on my website). During that workshop, I mapped out books that shaped my life (e.g.. books like You are a Badass by @jensincero or Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes or Big Magic by @elizabeth_gilbert_writer ) changed my mind (e.g. Monsters by @clairedederer ), and simultaneously broke and healed my heart (pretty much anything by @wallylambauthor ).

Today, I made a second map 🗺️ using the tools I had learned in that workshop 🖊️, but this time the biggest landmass on my paper also held a letter addressed to a reader I’ll likely never know 💌 I mailed my letter 📬(complete with wax seal - thank you for such a thoughtful gift @asambrosia ) to the UK 🇬🇧 to be included in a Library of Letters’, where it can be browsed, along with many others received letters 💌💌, by stationary shop customers 📝

What books 📚 would you include on your map 🗺️ that have provided direction when you’ve felt lost 🔦, helped you discover new “sight(s)” 📸 or reminded you why it all matters in the first place? 💕
